Freddie Freeman Beats Out Mookie Betts, Manny Machado For NL MVP

Freddie Freeman was named National League MVP on Thursday.

Freeman received 28 of the 30 first-place votes in balloting by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts got the other two firsts to finish second, and San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado was third.

The Atlanta Braves star battled COVID-19 earlier this year.

"It impacted me pretty hard," Freeman said.

Jose Abreu has been named the American League MVP after helping lead the Chicago White Sox to their first playoff berth in 12 years.

Abreu, 33, received 21 of 30 first-place votes and 374 points in voting announced by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Cleveland Indians third baseman Jose Ramirez was second with eight first-place votes and 303 points, and New York Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who won the AL batting crown, followed with one first-place vote and 230 points.

Shane Bieber was the unanimous winner of the AL Cy Young Award on Wednesday.

Bieber went 8-1 with a 1.63 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 77⅓ innings during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season for the Cleveland Indians. He led the Major Leagues in strikeouts, ERA and tied for the most wins.

Twins right-hander Kenta Maeda finished second in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, followed by Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Trevor Bauer Becomes First Reds Pitcher To Win Cy Young

Trevor Bauer has won the National League Cy Young award, the first member of the Cincinnati Reds to earn the honor.

Bauer beat out finalists Yu Darvish of the Chicago Cubs and Jacob deGrom of the New York Mets in the voting.

deGrom had won the award the last two seasons.

Bauer went 5-4 with an NL-best 1.73 ERA in 11 starts, helping the Reds reach the playoffs for the first time since 2013. Animated on the field and outspoken off it, the 29-year-old right-hander struck out 100 in 73 innings and led the majors with two shutouts, a pair of seven-inning performances on doubleheader days.

Kyle Lewis Wins AL Rookie Of The Year In Unanimous Vote

Seattle Mariners center fielder Kyle Lewis has won the American League Rookie of the Year award in a unanimous vote.

Lewis, 25, received all 30 first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He is the 12th unanimous winner of the award.

"It's just a great first step for me, and being in that category, it's just really special," he said.

He hit .259/.363/.438 with 11 home runs and five stolen bases in 57 games.

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Devin Williams has been named the National League Rookie of the Year.

Williams, 26, went 4-1 with a 0.33 ERA, striking out 53 in just 27 innings.

He is the first pitcher to win the award without recording a save or making a start during his award-winning season.

San Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth and Philadelphia Phillies infielder Alec Bohm finished tied for second in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
